The following is a basic letter template that can be emailed or mailed to your school board if you support a 14-day virtual quarantine after winter break. Adjust the bolded sections accordingly and please add personal notes or adjustments. We also encourage you to add or delete paragraphs to better fit your personal beliefs. You can also call the members of your school board, using the letter as a call script.
Further down you can also find the email addresses of school board members in districts where this campaign is active.
Members of the <SCHOOL/DISTRICT> Board,
Due to the projected spike in COVID-19 cases in early January, I strongly urge the Board to implement a 14-day virtual quarantine in our school after the winter break.
According to projections of the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wisconsin will occur on January 9th if no additional social distancing mandates, such as a Stay-at-Home order, are added by the State. The IHME projects the number of people estimated to be infected with COVID-19, including those not tested, to increase to between 12,000 and 43,000 daily.
Jack O’Horo, an infectious disease specialist at the Mayo Clinic, has also said the peak of the virus will occur around January 9th in Wisconsin. Dr. O’Horo has consulted with schools in the area and recommended they take a virtual quarantine to February.
Furthermore, because of the increase in cases after the Thanksgiving break, we can also assume that there will be a similar spike after winter break.
Therefore, I strongly urge the Board to discuss and implement a 14-day virtual quarantine from January 4th through January 15th, resuming in-person classes on the 19th.
