Reminding the Judiciary and Law Enforcement Committee of Waukesha County of the inequalities that exist in our society, believing that these measures can mitigate or prevent race-related incidents in the future,
Deeply disturbed by the deaths of many citizens from race-related police brutality across the nation,
We, the signatories, strongly urge you to implement the following steps to improve our county’s police departments and prevent police brutality in Waukesha County:
Encourages the use of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) programs by departments;
Prohibit police from profiling based on race or religion;
Encourages the use of body cameras for officers on patrol;
Requires officers to turn on body cameras before all encounters with a civilian;
Penalize officers who do not have their cameras on and injure a civilian;
Forbid officers who have been fired from one precinct for racial complaints from transferring to another department within Waukesha county.
